Wadaiko Player.Hiroki Miki
Born on 22nd of September 1973
The environment he had grown up had many festivals and it woke his interest in wadaiko up to let him start playing that instrument at the age of 2.
Became a member of a Wadaiko group at 5.gave his first lesson and teaches at 10,also became the main performer,
Meets Tomohiro Mitome(who is currently a member of KODO)with in the same Wadaiko group and has been partners ever since.
At 15 he had made his professional debut as the member of the <Ito Takio&TRYIN` TIMES>band.
Establishing his musical originality as a soloist from the age of 21, using more than ten different taiko drums such as Oo-Daiko(A very large drum carved from a single wood) NagaDou-Taiko(a drum carved in a beer barrel shape from a single giant log) Shime-Daiko(small rope-tuned drum), Uchiwa-Daiko(hand drum shaped like a round fan),OkeDou-drum(rope-tuned drum hollowed out and assembled from a number of staves),etc.
 
Hiroki has worked with musicians at home in Japan and abroad including Yan　Xing Xin,Murakami"Ponta"Shyuichi, Higashihara Rikiya,Sakata Akira.Ito Takio.Watanabe Kazumi.Kuriya Makoto,Ishii Tatuya.Miyako Harumi.Chiaki Naomi.Minami Kosetsu.B.B Mo-Franck,Kinosita Shinichi,Agatsuma Hiromitsu.
Also has a lot of expenences of sessions including ethnic music,dances,jazz,funk,R&B,TATE. and BreakDance,etc.

 

Hiroki`s original Taiko drum set consists of a unique combination of taiko drums, which is previously unknown in traditional Japanese Taiko playing.　Hiroki is one of the first of his kind to create a new field in wadaiko music.
A majority of people seem to couple the name of wadaiko with the idea of something powerfull&vigorous.
However the world Hiroki creates does not end there, every note he plays expresses anger,sadness,joy, the emotions that all humankind share. He may play something vigorous then the next moment he sings his instrument sadly.
 
Although having a deep root in tradition,Miki constantly searches for a new world through his original Wadaiko set which　consists of more than ten different drums.
